SITE08 Keynote YouTubed!

by | Tuesday, March 10, 2009

I just found out (via These Apples are Delicious blog, and more specifically this posting: Creative Teachers) that the keynote that Matt and I presented at SITE08 is now available on YouTube!

Somebody went through the effort of breaking up the video into 5 parts and posting them on YouTube (thanks!). Here they are as links (or embedded below)Part I, Part II, Part III, Part IV, Part V. Of course the video in its entirety can be found, on this website, as a quicktime movie here.

Speaking of leadership

Matt and I were invited to Sydney, Australia a year ago as a part of the Teaching Teachers for the Future (TTF) project. You can see a report in the New Educator: TPACK takes hold in Australia. As a part of this visit we were interviewed to speak a bit about...

12 Days of Christmas, the desi version

I love mongrel culture the mashing and creative remixing elements from different cultures and traditions to construct something new and, hopefully, wonderful. A great example is something my daughter, Shreya, showed me the other day. It is the 12 Days of Christmas...

Walking away from Happy Valley

I have been haunted the past week or so with the scandal enveloping Penn State. Much as been written about it already - and I really have nothing fundamentally new to offer to this discussion. What I did want to share was a parallel that struck me recently about these...

Handbook of TPACK for Educators, 2nd Edition

Handbook of TPACK for Educators, 2nd Edition

The TPACK framework, as we know it today, was first introduced to the world in 2006 in an article in TCRecord (Mishra & Koehler, 2006). An important part of the story of the success of the framework was the publication of The handbook of technological pedagogical...

On breaking the rules (and words)

My daughter on her blog has a new poem / haiku called Sweat, a haiku with one glich. She is in India right now where the temperatures are easily in the 90's - which I guess explains the genesis of the poem. What was more interesting, to me however, was the manner in...

TPACK in Science Ed (Video)

Jamie Smith at Ohio University has created a Prezi presentation on TPACK in Science Education. I think it is a pretty good introduction to the topic. Enjoy

New ambigram logo for ideaplay.org

I had written previously about a blog started by students in our Educational Psychology and Educational Technology Ph.D. program (ideaplay.org) and had designed a couple of ambigrammatic logos for them. You can see the original post here. Here is one of the original...

Michele, the fact that you made your family watch the video is actually the greatest compliment I have received so far! Thanks 🙂

As to how to quote from the lecture… I really don’t know. I am terrible at APA anyway. Matt Koehler (my partner in crime) often thinks that I make up my own version of APA that he has to then deal with. I think that you can just quote it and cite my website, not the youtube version but rather this link (which has the entire version in quicktime format). That may take a little longer to load but is somewhat immune to the vagaries of Youtube.

TPACK is a framework for teacher knowledge and our focus has been on measuring that aspect. The next (and necessary) step towards student learning is not one that *we* have taken so far. I know there has been a great deal of interest in TPACK by school instructors (and I am involved in outreach in this area) but I am not sure there is any specific research devoted to that.

Clearly both of these are prime areas for future research – so let me know if you want to talk sometime about this. Thanks again.

I LOVE that your keynote was utubed! Super lecture – well done. I actually made my family watch it! I have two kids in college. I a doc. student under Dr. Theresa Foulger at ASU and she sent me your way.

I want to quote some items from the lecture, but don’t know how to cite this in APA. Sorry such a boring question.

Another question – have you found a system that measures any part of TPACK for effective learning from students point of view? or school administrators? I am very curious here….

    Thank you!
