Koehler & Mishra (in press)

by | Wednesday, November 26, 2008

Just for the record, Matt Koehler and I have a new piece in press. I should note that significant portions of this paper were condensed and updated from Mishra & Koehler (2007), with permission from AACE. Email me if you want a draft copy. The complete reference and abstract is given below:

Koehler, M.J. & Mishra, P. (in press). What is Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK)? Contemporary Issues in Technology and Teacher Education [Online serial], 9(1).

Abstract: Abstract: In this paper we describe a framework for teacher knowledge for technology integration called Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (originally TPCK, now TPACK: Technology, Pedagogy, and Content Knowledge). This framework builds on Shulman’s construct of Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) to include technology knowledge. We argue that the development of TPACK by teachers is critical to effective teaching with technology. We begin with a brief introduction to the complex, ill- structured nature of teaching. We consider the nature of technologies (both analog and digital), and how the inclusion of technology in pedagogy further complicates teaching. We describe the TPACK framework for teacher knowledge in detail, as a complex interaction among three bodies of knowledge: Content, Pedagogy, and Technology. We explain how these bodies of knowledge interact, both theoretically and in practice, to produce the types of flexible knowledge needed to successfully integrate technology use into teaching.

Rethinking Little Red Riding Hood

Awesome retelling of the old tale... (h/t Steve Dembo @ teach42). Slagsmålsklubben - Sponsored by destiny from Tomas Nilsson on Vimeo. As Steve says (you can read his full post here) such remixing can provide interesting opportunities for teachers, particularly given...

Beirut, Nairobi, Paris

After I had posted my "Paris, City of Love" design on FB, my friend Pilar Quezzaire posted on my wall the following question: What about Beirut and Nairobi, Punya? Can you make one for them as well? In another posting she linked to the...

Create… Emergence!

I ended the mashup TPACK commercial with the following words, Explore, Create, Share! Over the past couple of weeks my kids and I have been working on a series of short videos around these three words. The first one we made was around the idea of "Explore," titled To...

Microblogging in the classroom

I have written quite a bit about how a technology can become an educational technology (see this, this, this and this). This is a non-trivial task that all educators face, and requires situational creativity in re-purposing / re-designing the existing tool to meet...

David Jiles, Ph.D., Creativity Expert, Plagiarist!

I do not know who David Jiles, Ph.D. is. I do know that he is a plagiarist, an intellectual crook and a thief of the highest order! I do not write these words lightly. I was first informed of this by Mike Deschryver and have over the past few days attempted to look...

Technology Integration 2.0 — was TPACK 😉

The recently concluded NECC conference had quite a bit of TPACK related presentations. Sadly neither Matt nor I could make it to NECC... maybe next year! One I discovered just today (h/t @mhines on twitter) was one titled School 2.0 & Understanding by Design....

Wordplay

Wordplay

Just some visual wordplay that I have indulged in, just for the heck of it. Nothing really special, though I am partial to the "Explore, Create, Share" design. That was the motto of the MAET program at MSU that I directed for years.  Innovate 2 on Creativity...
